Methane Safety Usage Guidelines
Although methane is non-toxic, it is highly flammable and explosive. When mixed with air, it can form explosive mixtures. Safety is paramount:
1. Storage and Placement:
· Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat sources, ignition sources, and oxidizers (such as oxygen or chlorine).
· Cylinders must be stored upright and securely fastened.
2. Leak Prevention:
· Use only methane-specific pressure regulators and explosion-proof equipment.
· All piping systems must undergo leak testing with leak detection fluid or gas detectors.
· Installation of combustible gas concentration alarms in usage areas is strongly recommended.
3. Operational Requirements:
· Operators must undergo safety training to understand methane properties and emergency procedures.
· When opening cylinder valves, personnel must not stand directly in front of the valve outlet.
4. Firefighting Guidelines:
· In case of fire, first shut off the gas supply while ensuring personal safety. Use dry powder, carbon dioxide, or foam extinguishers for fire suppression.
