1. In the field of polymerization reactions (polymer grade ethylene)
High purity ethylene, as the core polymer monomer, is the basic raw material for producing polymer materials such as plastics and rubber
-Polyethylene (PE) production: Low density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), etc. are prepared through different polymerization processes (high pressure, low pressure, medium pressure), and are widely used in fields such as film, pipe, injection molded products, packaging materials, etc.
-Production of ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA): High purity ethylene is used to prepare foam materials, hot melt adhesives, films, wire and cable sheaths, etc., with both flexibility and weather resistance.
-Other polymer products: high-purity ethylene is copolymerized with monomers such as propylene and styrene to produce acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer (ABS), ethylene propylene rubber (EPR), etc., which are used for automotive parts, home appliance casings, sealing materials, etc.
2. Organic synthesis field (industrial grade/refined grade high-purity ethylene)
Through addition, oxidation and other reactions, various basic chemical raw materials and fine chemicals are synthesized:
-Ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol production: Ethylene oxide is used to prepare detergents, surfactants, pharmaceutical intermediates, etc; Ethylene glycol is the core raw material for producing polyester fibers (polyester), antifreeze, and polyester resins.
-Acetaldehyde/Acetic Acid Production: Acetaldehyde can be used to prepare acetic acid, butanol, octanol, etc; Acetic acid is an important organic acid widely used in industries such as food additives, pharmaceuticals, and coatings.
-Styrene production: alkylation reaction with benzene produces styrene, which is then used to prepare polystyrene (PS), foam plastics, synthetic rubber, etc.
3. Other industrial sectors
-Petrochemical additives: High purity ethylene is used in catalytic reforming, hydrocracking and other processes in crude oil refining, as a diluent or reaction additive to improve refining efficiency and product quality.
-In the agricultural field, a small amount of ethylene has a ripening effect and can be used as a ripening agent for fruits and vegetables (with strict control of concentration and usage conditions), but industrial grade ethylene cannot be directly used for agricultural ripening due to its trace impurities.
-Fuel field: High purity ethylene can be used as fuel for special combustion equipment, with high combustion efficiency and low pollutant emissions (requiring dedicated safety facilities).
Precautions for use
Important reminder: Ethylene is a flammable and explosive gas that can form explosive mixtures when mixed with air (explosion limit 2.7%~36.0%), and has a certain degree of suffocation. During use and storage, safety regulations must be strictly followed to prevent risks such as leakage and open flames!
-The environment for using high-purity ethylene should be well ventilated, equipped with combustible gas detection and alarm devices, explosion-proof electrical equipment, strictly prohibited from smoking, using open flames and non explosion proof tools, and kept away from heat sources, fire sources, and oxidants.
-High purity ethylene storage and transportation require the use of specialized pressure vessels (inspected and qualified steel cylinders, tank trucks). Steel cylinders should be handled with care to avoid collisions and exposure to sunlight, and rough loading and unloading are strictly prohibited; Pipeline transportation requires proper sealing and pressure monitoring.
-When operating high-purity ethylene, it is necessary to wear professional protective equipment (gas masks, protective goggles, chemical protective clothing, etc.). If a leak occurs, immediately evacuate personnel, close valves, open ventilation facilities, dilute and disperse with inert gas, and blind disposal is strictly prohibited.
-Ethylene of different purity levels cannot be mixed, and precise selection should be made according to production process requirements to avoid affecting product quality or causing abnormal reactions due to substandard purity.
